Interdisciplinary Centre for Nanostructured Materials & Interfaces (CIMAINA)
The CIMAINA merges competencies in nanotechnology, solid-state physics, scanning probe spectroscopy, proteomics, cell biology to develop a deep understanding of the phenomena governing the interaction between inorganic and organic surfaces at the nanoscale level. This fundamental knowledge is exploited for the development of novel fabrication processes, devices, systems for biomedical applications.
The CIMAINA has developed a well-established expertise in the field of the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials and systems to reach a deeper understanding of the role of nanostructured surfaces in influencing cell adhesion, proliferation and differentiation. This expertise has been developed in the framework of European and national projects. The CIMAINA has originally developed techniques for the production, manipulation and assembling of inorganic and organic nanoparticles and for their integration on microfabricated platforms.
