IK4-CIDETEC (CID), Centre for Electrochemical Technologies, was created in 1997 as a non-profit Foundation whose mission is to serve the industry to enhance its competitiveness through the implementation of innovative procedures and products.

IK4-CIDETEC addresses all electrochemical technologies mainly from an applied research point of view. Its experience and “know-how” covers three main areas of activity: Energy (Batteries, Fuel Cells and Photovoltaics), Surface Finishing (Coatings and Processes) and New Materials (Nanotechnologies, Biomaterials, Sensors and Photonics).

IK4-CIDETEC had an annual turnover of 9,9M€ in 2011 and at the present time employs a highly qualified staff of 124 people (51 PhD included). To carry on its activities IK4-CIDETEC actively collaborates with the close-by University of the Basque Country taking part in masters and PhD programs.CID is developing new types of biosensors in collaboration with BioDonostia, “Network of Hospitals of Donostia”.
