The second Catsense Summer School: 'Clusters and Nanoparticles for Biotechnology and Biomedicine' was held from September 11th to September 15th, 2016 in Villa Cagnola a historical landmark located next to Varese in the lake district of Italy.
The aim of the School is to present the state-of-the-art and the future perspectives of metal clusters and cluster-assembled materials in biotechnology and biomedicine.
Lectures will be given by academic and industrial experts in Physics, Material Science and Biotechnology to provide a truly trans-disciplinary approach.
Covered Topics
Clusters and nanoparticles for biology: from synthesis to advanced characterization techniques; Proteomics; Advanced Imaging; Biosensing applications; Microfluidics; Nanosafety and Toxicity.
The School will be a great opportunity for master and doctoral students from around the World to meet established experts of this field in a friendly atmosphere, reaping benefit in terms of enthusiasm, knowledge and new ideas.

Travel Information
There are 3 main airports close to Milano : Malpensa, Bergamo and Linate. From these, the closest to Gazzada-Schianno train station is Malpensa Airport.
From Malpensa airport:
If you choose to come to Malpensa airport, the easiest and cheapest way is to get a shuttle from the airport to Gallarate train station. You can take the shuttle from Terminal 1 as well from the Terminal 2. The duration of the trip is around 25 minutes and the cost of a ticket is 1.80 Euros, which can be purchased from the driver. Once you get to the Gallarate train station there are trains to Gazzada-Schianno-Morazzone (about 300 meters away from Villa Cagnola) every 30 minutes. The train tickets cost 2.20 Euros the trip lasts 20 minutes. For information regarding the train tables you can access http://www.trenord.it/it/home.aspx.
Also for the timetable of the bus from the airport to Gallarate train station you can access http://www.milanairportsguide.com/malpensa-airport-buses.htm
VERY IMPORTANT!
Please keep in mind the first shuttle to Gallarate train station leaves at 5:34 in the morning and the last one leaves at 19:50. If you land after 19: 50 you will have to get a train from Terminal 1 to Gallarate train station.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE NO TRAINS AND NO BUSES FROM THE AIRPORT BETWEEN 2:00 AND 5:00 IN THE NIGHT.
From Bergamo Airport:
In case you land here, you can take a bus to Milano Statione Centrale, a 45 minutes trip at a cost of 5 Euros and the ticket can be purchased from the driver. From Milano Centrale you can take a train to Gazzada-Schianno-Morazzone but again you will have to change one more train on the way. The cost of a ticket is 5.5 Euros and the trip lasts around 1:30 hours, not including the train change. (more information on http://www.trenitalia.com/).
From Linate Airport:
If you arrive at this airport you will need to get bus 73 to Forlanini FS , a trip that takes 25 minutes and it costs 1.5 Euros. From there you can take a train to Gazzada-Schianno-Morazzone for 1:30 hours at a cost of 5.50 Euros. (For more information about the train timetables check http://www.trenord.it/it/home.aspx ).
